ES=Environmental what? You mean EXTREMELY SUXASS? Oh yeah!

Yeah today is the submission of ES- Ecomimicry Project. A model of our design, and 2 B4 size presentation board, printed on 2 A4 papers.

What I want to say? It's sux! Serious.

All things finished on time and pinned up on time, expecting a happy submission and leave for some happy hour and a night of relaxation. And turned out the lecturer asking almost all of us taking back the model and board and kinda REDO! What the hell seriously!

I don't care what the others think about that, but I don't see the point of saying thing like
"your model supposed to show how it works and it had to be tested!"

First of all, people taking years and even whole lifetime to invent something new. We only have 1 month I guess, minus the 2 weeks holiday plus the 1 week unnecessary extension. We were advice not to touch chemicals and material stuff while so called inventing the item/object/technology/system, due to we need to make model. We were even advised by one of the lecturer to look at what the people out there do, refer and put them together to form our new invention, which I shall call this term "taking precedents". And in common sense, taking precedents is actually s great step for one to apply a similar existed system or technology as part of our invention, without us to worry about to show it in the model, because it's been done and showed work! Example, solar panel, photovoltaic system.

Then, they were giving us such few tutorials, only 1 or 2, and 1 interim, by our own students! Both steps I would see it as a big wrong! Tutorial amount 1 or 2 I guess was still not a fatal issue. The critical one was having a interim crit, and to ask our own students to crit it! Why was it wrong? It became a great time for them to be bossy, especially like throwing out question like "What do you actually contribute in this invention?". They had forgotten they only have 1 week time (minus holiday counted as 1 week) to final submission, and the availability of taking precedents! I mean, what was the hell with the thinking of taking precedents form a new invention as no contribution? If you google it, no one has this invention of yours, after you put them together in some way to deal with some issue, I see it as perfectly OK! It's only 1 month hello! Whole thing, sounds like it's students fault in this point. But, think, who asked students to crit in during the interim crit, without giving a clear brief?

Talking about models, this is seriously hell. Like my case, I'm doing some phosphorescent panel or building skin, which a phosphorescent layer is laminated in the glass. The best way to represent in model, is to coat a layer of phosphorescent paint on the model board. But, the manufacturer here do not take it phosphorescent paint, nearest is from Australia, 1 litre of it, cost RM400++ without adding in shipping cost. Why not find from those art shop? If you ask me, let me answer you. I found, I only want transparent color, those paint sold in fancy color, and in tiny thumbnail size of small can, which will malfunction after a while, and it costs a bomb! I have good reasons of skip showing this in model!

Talk about model again, what did they mean just now, about testing the model? We never even had an agreement on that? The whole thing just now, was like making us in a wrong fair! Some engineering fair? Or some mechanical fair? Hello? We are design students! And I wonder who said before the model doesn't have to be working, it's about the idea of mimicking the wisdom of the chosen flora and fauna to form a system/item/invention to solve a local issue! If chemical and material are forbidden area for this project; workability of model, or be more precise, the need of making a model, is not really needed! And for my group, I don't know why she couldn't understand or want us to prove it works. It's so easy to understand from the panel, as I have showed how sunlight being guided to reflect to the darker corners, by tilted the created angle of opening on panel. All of the diagrams are in the board!

And the extension. I didn't understand why give us extension. I believe at the end of the moment, we students will make it for the submission. I see almost all people, also never make good use of the given submission. All only start rushing 2 days ago or yesterday night. Why? We have other subjects, and other interims as well!

And what's wrong with not having a model photo of the product on the presentation board, when a 3d rendering can show better in telling materials? We are so limited in material sources. Model board, balsa, perspex....WTH was wrong with their brain seriously I'm doubting.

At the end, no one have the guts of agreeing to submit the panel and product in one voice, all taken the models and panels back.

So what then for this shitty extension? I will put the model and board in one corner for it to collect dust, until next Wednesday. I will add some diagrams more if I'm free. IF! Next week Studio Interim Crit 2. Model? For mine, it's a definitely works thing. to make the model, scale too big. If they don't understand still, I feel bad for them.
